How to decorate for fall on a budget

Shop postseason sales, check thrift stores year-round

This article is sponsored by The Peddler Show.

Even though fall is officially here, it doesn't exactly feel like autumn with the 90-degree temperatures in South Texas.

It may not be time to pull out the sweaters just yet, but it's time to get excited about the latest fall home decor trends that will fit your budget.

Fall decor trends for 2019: neutral color palette, checkered and plaid pumpkins.

Listed below are great ways to stock up on fall decor that won't break your wallet.

Check thrift stores year-round

Before you go to a thrift store, know what you're looking for beforehand. If you have a list of items you need for fall, start shopping at your local thrift store in summer. Start browsing for fall wreaths and you may just find one for a couple of bucks. Even roadshows and markets may have what you're looking for.

Decor tip: People can't get enough of white-and-black checkered faux pumpkins and even polka dot faux pumpkins. If you have faux orange pumpkins or even real pumpkins, try painting them white or black if you want a DIY project.

Shop postseason sales

Be on the lookout in mid-November to early December for some fall steals. Stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael's can be great places to find deals.

Decor tip: Neutral color palettes for fall decorating is in style for 2019. The next time you're shopping at Target or Walmart, you'll notice how there are more white, gray and black pumpkins instead of natural orange pumpkins.

Stick to mini and faux pumpkins

You can find miniature pumpkins under $5 at your local crafts store. Since mini pumpkins are so affordable, they can be used in the bathroom, bedrooms, outside and in the kitchen for decoration. Real pumpkins can cost double the price of a faux pumpkin, just something to keep in mind. You can always paint a faux pumpkin or put plaid cloth over it.

Decor tip: Get a tall clear vase and fill it with an assortment of miniature pumpkins and gourds. You can reuse the vase year-round for all the seasons.
