Passionate Spurs fan travels from China to watch Manu play

SAN ANTONIO – It's well-known that the San Antonio Spurs' have a deeply committed fanbase in the Alamo City, but love for the Silver and Black extends far outside of South Texas.

One such Spurs superfan traveled all the way from Shanghai, China, to watch his favorite team take on the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.

Fan "Van" Ding, 28, began learning English three years ago so that he could travel to San Antonio to watch his favorite player, Manu Ginobili, play in his final season.

Ding even made a poster to take to the game in hopes that his family back in China can see him as they livestream the game on the internet.

The Spurs themselves say they're happy to hear of Ding's committed fandom.

"We appreciate the loyalty and passion of each of our fans, whether they are San Antonio natives or from another country," said Meredith Collier, Spurs Sports & Entertainment's corporate communications coordinator. "The Spurs are proud to be a global family."
