SAN ANTONIO – Spurs shooting guard Danny Green held his first youth basketball camp in San Antonio this week.

Green said his clinic is a chance for youth basketball players to not only work on their skills, but the goal is also to spread a message of hard work and positivity. He said his story is one many children can relate to.

“I wasn’t the most athletic or most talented, just worked really hard and if you work really hard, whatever it is you want to do, you can do it,” Green said. “You just have to have the proper steps to achieve that goal.”

Green called July his official “camp month.” He started the month with a camp in Chapel Hill, N.C. where he played collegiately at the University of North Carolina.

He held a clinic in El Paso and Austin before the San Antonio stop, and is scheduled to visit Corpus Christi, McAllen and Laredo in the coming days.

Green said holding camps in these cities is important to him, and giving back to the community is something his father instilled in him at a young age.

“It’s very important to be active in the community and give back,” Green said. “Once you make it, you want to help other kids.”

One of the unique aspects of the clinic is a sit-down question-and-answer session with camp participants.

Green takes questions on everything from trade rumors, his youth, his future, who the toughest player is to guard in the NBA and some lighter questions about teammates.

“The question I always get is how hard is it to make Kawhi laugh, does Kawhi laugh? Yes, he’s human,” Green said.

Green said the questions that stick out to him are about how to be successful in life, basketball and the proper steps to become a good basketball player.

“If I could help them get there, I get enjoyment out of that more than anything,” Green said.
