SOUTH TEXAS – We are now halfway through the 2017 high school football regular season. Time flies when you’re running around South Texas on the Big Game Coverage Road Trip.
Game 1: Hondo Owls (0-4) at Devine Warhorses (0-4). The two schools are separated by less than 25 miles, and according to the Lone Star Football Network, this rivalry dates back to 1921. The Owls lead the series 56-33-2. Last season they split the series 1-1. Devine won the regular season contest, 50-49. Hondo took the bi-district playoff game, 56-28.
This non-district game will kick 7:30 p.m. Friday at Warhorse Stadium.
Game 2: Poteet Aggies (1-2) versus Natalia Bulldogs (4-0). The Aggies are coming off their first win of the season, 14-12, against Karnes City. The Bulldogs are undefeated and averaging 39.8 points per game. This marks Natalia’s last non-district game before starting District 15-3A-II action next week. Poteet has two non-district games before opening District 14-4A-II play.
Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mustang Stadium.
Game 3: Laredo United South Panthers (1-3, 1-0 District 29-6A) at Southwest Dragons (3-1,1-0 District 29-6A). Winners of three straight, Southwest dominated its district opener by shutting out Del Rio, 20-0. The Dragons will pound the ball rushing for an average of 299.0 yards per game. This is the first of back-to-back home games for Southwest.
Due to field conditions at Dragon Stadium, the game has been moved to Southwest Legacy Stadium. Kick is 7:30 p.m. Friday.
