SCHERTZ – Week 1′s showdown between Brennan and Reagan certainly lived up to the hype, and the Bears pulled away late to secure a hard-fought 35-14 victory. Now, on the heels of that loss, the No. 4 Rattlers jump right back into the spotlight for Week 2′s Game of the Week against Steele.
The Knights moved up to No. 3 in this week’s KSAT 12′s Top 12 rankings and enter Week 2 with plenty of momentum after scoring 28 second-half points in a 35-14 rout of Pflugerville Hendrickson. Junior quarterback Connor Vincent was efficient under center, completing 11 of 16 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, but the majority of the Knights’ offense came from a potent ground game. Junior Jaydon Bailey and senior TeShaun Singleton each notched 100 rushing yards on the night, as Steele racked up 300 total yards on the ground. After allowing a long touchdown in the first quarter, the Knights’ defense tightened up and pitched a shutout in the second half.
Reagan might have dropped a couple spots in our rankings, but they certainly proved they can hang with the best teams in the San Antonio area. The Rattlers took the air out of the ball and implemented a ground-and-pound attack against a stout Brennan defense. Running backs Carson Green and Tre’Shawn Jones were the only two Reagan players to score touchdowns last Friday night, and both came on the ground. Quarterback Britton Moore will look to have more success against the Knights secondary after completing only six passes for 71 yards and rushing 13 times for 18 yards against Brennan.
