SEGUIN, Texas – Led by 7-year-old Trevor Caballero, a San Antonio native, the Kids Throw Too cornhole tournament was a huge success. One hundred sixty-five kids, ranging from 4 to 18 years old, played in the two-day event at Tiger Sports Complex in Seguin.

Trevor burst onto the cornhole scene when he was 5. In late 2019, Trevor asked his father, Justin, a cornhole player himself, if he could play the game. Dad said yes, and the rest is history.

Trevor entered his first cornhole competition in February 2020, a sanctioned Southeastern Conference tournament. He won the novice division, going undefeated in singles play at 5 years old.

Trevor beat adults to become the youngest player ever to win a sanctioned cornhole tournament.

“I like beating people,” Trevor said when KSAT 12 sports asked what he likes about cornhole.

Beating adults is impressive, but what makes this remarkable is Trevor’s throwing the maximum length of 27 feet from board to board. He steps forward, hops into the air while throwing the bag, and easily makes it to the other board.

“I knew he had a great arm because he was throwing 27 feet,” Justin said.

Justin, who’s from San Antonio, helped bring the Kids Throw Too cornhole tournament to Seguin, and he did so to give the kids a place to play while looking to the future of cornhole.

“The kids are the future of the sport, and there’s really no place for them to play,” Justin said. “If you want to go play at a tournament, you’re throwing 27 feet. How is that fair for a 4-year-old? A 5-year-old? A 6-year-old? No matter the age or skill level, we’ll have a place for them to play. We have 15 feet, 21 feet and the full distance at 27 feet.”

Trevor plays in the American Cornhole League and was dubbed “The Kid Phenom” by those in the league. He has an agent and his own bag sponsor, Fire Cornhole, out of North Carolina. They supply Trevor with his own signature bag called the “Ember.”

On top of all of that, Trevor is already an inspiration to other kids. For example, a young boy from Texas with down syndrome saw Trevor playing cornhole on YouTube and instantly took a liking to Trevor and the sport. Now, all he wants to do is play cornhole. That boy’s father reached out to Justin to ask for some bags because he knew that would make his son happy.

Trevor’s bag sponsor made it happen and hooked the boy up. Better yet, the bags arrived on his birthday.

Justin and Trevor currently live in Jacksonville, Florida, because Justin is in the U.S. Navy. They still have family in San Antonio and plan to hold more Kids Throw Too cornhole tournaments in the area.
