Scholar Athlete: Alejandro Brown, Veterans Memorial High School

SAN ANTONIO – Meet Instant Replay’s newest Scholar Athlete of the Week, Alejandro Brown of Veterans Memorial High School.

Alejandro is a two-year starter and three-year member of the varsity football team. He’s a four-year member of the varsity track and field team for discus and shot put. He was named Second-Team Academic All-State for both football and track. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, the 3D Athletics MMXV, is a Media Team Reporter and he performs community service through Operation Comfort and is a volunteer tutor. Alejandro maintains a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 15th in his class. He’s already committed to the University of the Incarnate Word for track and field and will major in Rehabilitative Science.

WHAT MEMORIES DO YOU TAKE AWAY WITH YOU AS YOU LEAVE HIGH SCHOOL?

“My sophomore year when I was given the chance to be on varsity for football. I was really excited about that but I had to earn it.”

WHAT WAS IT LIKE GOING THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL DURING THE PANDEMIC?

“There wasn’t person-to-person teaching, so we missed out on that. A lot of friends and relationships, there was some people taken away from us, so you had to recover from that.”

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS?

“Stay focused, stay focused early and use your time wisely.”
