‘His shoe game is on point’: Alamo Bowl head coaches share compliments at Friday’s kickoff luncheon

The 32nd Valero Alamo Bowl between BYU and Colorado will air at 6:30 p.m. Saturday live on KSAT 12

SAN ANTONIO – During a Friday news conference ahead of the 2024 Valero Alamo Bowl, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders bonded over more than their love of football and Saturday’s game.

Sitake and Sanders also complemented each other’s wardrobe.

“His shoe game is on point today, as well,” Sanders said. “You know, he’s clean. He’s got the jacket. I had no idea — but it’s not like I would have changed anyway — but he’s looking really good.”

“I got one outfit man, and this is about it,” Sitake said jokingly. “If we switched wardrobes right now, I’m pretty sure that I would get a lot more from it than you would. I could never make that work.”

Sitake and Sanders also discussed recent changes in the college football landscape.

“I just really appreciate Deion (Sanders) just being open and being so kind to me,” Sitake said. “I feel like he’s my guy, you know? We’ve been able to talk about a bunch of stuff, especially with college football and how much it’s changing.”

One of the biggest changes both head coaches will face is saying goodbye to their seniors and others declaring for the NFL Draft.

For Sanders, that includes two of his sons — quarterback Shedeur and safety Shilo — as well as 2024 Heisman Trophy Award winner Travis Hunter.

“I know Travis (Hunter) is gonna trigger me. I know because he always does and he’s gonna bring tears out of my eyes,” Sanders said. “I don’t look forward to it, but I do because it means they’re going to another level, another chapter of life. And they’re going to soar. I’m thankful that I feel as though we’ve equipped them with all the tools necessary to be successful.”
