SAN ANTONIO – Meet Instant Replay’s newest Scholar Athlete of the Week: Anna Arceneaux of Antonian High School.
Anna is the captain of the varsity volleyball team. She’s been named First-Team All-District two years in a row, First-Team All-State her senior year and Academic All-State three years in a row. Anna is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the Interact Club. She performs community service through the Caring Hearts Drive and the San Antonio Food Bank. Anna maintains a 4.0 GPA and will play volleyball for the University of Texas at Tyler, major in Kinesiology and become an Athletic Trainer.
WHAT MEMORIES DO YOU TAKE AWAY WITH YOU AS YOU LEAVE HIGH SCHOOL?
“Last year and this year going to state, being state runner-ups, that was a very exciting moment for the volleyball community.”
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS ON HOW TO BALANCE ACADEMICS AND ATHLETICS?
“It’s definitely a struggle. You have to sacrifice a lot of your time when you are not playing your sport. You have to put time aside to focus on academics and study. You definitely have to work ten times harder than non-athletes because you are not here a lot of the time.”
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER YOU GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL?
“I plan to go to the University of Texas at Tyler and major in Kinesiology. I want to be a school trainer. I love sports and I really want to do something that helps people.”
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR PARENTS OR TEACHERS OR COACHES?
“To my volleyball coach, Samantha McLure, I wouldn’t be able to do any of these things I’m doing right now, getting any of these accolades I’ve gotten without her. She has pushed me a lot these last four years. She really brought out the best in me and helped me be the best version of myself and I really appreciate her for that.”
