SAN ANTONIO – Meet Instant Replay’s newest Scholar Athlete of the Week: Preston Jones of Antonian High School.
Preston is a three-year member of the varsity football and track teams. He was named Academic All-State for football the last two years. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Tomahawk Journalism and Campus Ministry and performs community service at the San Antonio Food Bank. Preston maintains a 4.0 GPA, plans to attend Texas A&M University, major in Biology and become a dentist.
WHAT MEMORIES DO YOU TAKE AWAY WITH YOU AS YOU LEAVE HIGH SCHOOL?
“Over the last four years, my fondest memory has to be the most recent Red Day that we held at this school. It’s a school wide competition where we compete to see which grade earns the most points during the week before homecoming. The seniors won so that was really nice, the first time winning.”
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR FELLOW STUDENTS ON HOW TO BALANCE ACADEMICS AND ATHLETICS?
“Its a struggle. It requires a lot of sacrifice especially compared to what your friends might be doing. Being diligent with how you use your free time is the most important part balancing student life and sports.”
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER YOU GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL?
“I plan to attend Texas A&M University and study Biology and become a dentist.”
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR PARENTS OR TEACHERS OR COACHES?
“I want to give a huge thanks to Blake Fuschak. He was instrumental in my development as a football player. Not really playing football at all before high school and coming here, playing to the degree which I did. He was a huge part of it, developing me to what I am today. And a huge shootout to the Antonian community for always being supportive, making sure I had everything I need to succeed both academically and extracurricularly”
