Fans were hoping to see Ginobili return for a 17th season but, alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
Ginobili tweeted his thanks Monday saying, "Today, with a wide range of feelings, I'm announcing my retirement from basketball. IMMENSE GRATITUDE to everyone (family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, fans) involved in my life in the last 23 years. It's been a fabulous journey. Way beyond my wildest dreams.”

Since 2001, the first year we can calculate it, only 2 players had a better plus/minus in the playoffs than Manu Ginobili

They're LeBron James and Tim Duncan https://t.co/rAf5g5a6DZ pic.twitter.com/AHj9x7K6sU
Manu Ginobili is a true winner who brought so much joy to the game and will forever be one of my favorite players. I hope the example he set by sacrificing a starting role and personal accolades for the greater good of the team continues to inspire young people across the world. https://t.co/QWfcGsGbmx

With Manu Ginobili's retirement, here's a reminder of the time he took on a bat. pic.twitter.com/gt0pSUlF5H

On this date 14 years ago, Argentina defeated the USA in the semifinals at the Olympics in Athens. Manu Ginobili outscored Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, LeBron, Wade, Amare & Carmelo 29 to 25. Incredible.

There have been few, if any, players in the history of sports - let alone basketball - who combined being brilliant to watch on the court with being wonderful to deal with off of it the way Manu Ginobili did. He’ll leave a huge void in his wake as he ends a remarkable career. https://t.co/G1sOd0HACz

Manu Ginobili is the only player to capture an NBA title, gold medal and a bat in his career. Absolute legend.

Here’s his best plays from last season. How does a 40 year old playing 20 minutes a game have a sick 3-minute plays of the year mixtape?
