Derrick White's career night lifts Spurs past Nets

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs came from behind in the fourth quarter and pulled off another win at home over the Brooklyn Nets, 117-114.

It was the Spurs fourth win in a row overall and their third in a row at home.

It came on a night when LaMarcus Aldridge was named to his seventh NBA All-Star Game and on a night when Derrick White played like a future all-star.

White scored a career-high 26 points and dished out six assists. He did a lot of his damage in the fourth quarter despite being in foul trouble.

"He's shown a lot of maturity in different parts of his game, on different parts of the game especially in crunch time," said Patty Mills, who scored 17 points off the bench.

With the outcome still in the balance and a minute left to play, White made one of the plays of the game when he showed patience and then threw an over the top pass to Aldridge who made the layup for a three-point lead, 114-111.

"Just trying to make the right play each and every time down, offensively and defensively," White said.

Some of the poise he shows comes from his time in the G-League last year, leading his team to the title.

He may not have any all-star trips yet but he does have something Aldridge doesn't have.

"I always talk trash to him, that you know he's won a ring and I haven't," Aldridge said. "He's working hard and he helps this team get better."

Aldridge finished the night with a double-double, 20 points and 13 rebounds.

It was also a big night for DeMar DeRozan. He was back in the starting lineup after missing the last three games with a sore knee. He scored 15 points on 5 of 16 shooting. 

"It felt good, I missed a lot of easy shots," DeRozan said. There was some rust but he finished strong.

"I had no restrictions or soreness. I'm satisfied on top of us getting a win," DeRozan said.

Now the Spurs are down to just one more home game Saturday against New Orleans before the eight-game Rodeo Road Trip.
