Sofia Ojeda is an award-winning journalist at KPRC 2. She gets your day started bright and early as co-anchor of KPRC 2 News Today which airs weekdays at 5 a.m.
She also reports from the community, producing stories and getting solutions that matter most to you.
Sofia started her career at KPRC 2 as the weekend morning anchor and reporter in 2015.
She's anchored mornings ever since.
Sofia was born in Lima, Peru and grew up in New Jersey.
She graduated from The College of New Jersey with a degree in Communications, Television and Radio track.
During her college years, she worked as a news anchor and sports reporter for the school's TV station.
She also played four years of collegiate women's basketball.
After graduation, Sofia kicked off her career as a News Desk Assistant at WABC News in New York City, the station where she interned while in college.
After stints in The Bronx, NY; Binghamton, NY; Elmira, NY; and Scranton, PA--she moved to Houston with her family in 2015 and joined the KPRC 2 News team.
A memorable moment for Sofia came in 2014 when she met a little boy whose interview would go viral. While at the Wayne County Fair in Pennsylvania, Sofía met Noah Ritter famously dubbed, "the Apparently Kid," while he was getting off a carnival ride. She asked him a few questions about the fair and "apparently" the rest is history.
In 2018, Sofía was awarded an Emmy for Hurricane Harvey coverage.
Her piece titled "Hurricane Harvey's Unsung Heroes" captured the heroic efforts of everyday citizens in the Houston area helping to rescue people from the rising flood waters.
Sofia is happily married with two beautiful daughters. She is a proud mom and happy wife who loves documentaries, lots of coffee, and watching sports all weekend long.
