The Texas General Land Office and the Alamo Trust announced Friday plans to restore the Alamo Cenotaph by keeping the structure in its place as preservation work begins. Work will start in July 2024 and is expected to wrap up in early 2025.

The Alamo and the attorney for the owner of Moses Rose’s Hideout announced Thursday that a deal had been struck to acquire the bar property, which sits in the footprint of a planned Alamo Visitors Center and Museum.

The City of San Antonio has taken the next step to take over a bar near the Alamo using eminent domain.

The battle over Moses Rose’s Hideout continues, and now the bar owner is taking legal action over the latest offer for the business.

The holdout owner of a bar in the way of a new Alamo museum has said the City of San Antonio’s “best and final” $5.26 million offer to buy him out isn’t good enough. Now, with the city and its partners prepared to use eminent domain, the deadlock appears to be headed to court.

The San Antonio City Council voted 9-2 on Thursday morning to authorize the use of eminent domain to acquire Moses Rose’s Hideout on East Houston Street, which sits in the footprint of a planned Alamo Visitor Center and Museum.

Vince Cantu, the owner of Moses Rose’s Hideout, said in a news release Wednesday that he’s “ready for ‘the Battle of the Alamo 2.0′ but today is asking for peaceful negotiation with city council.”

The immersive outdoor exhibit debuts Friday morning across the Alamo and is free to the public.

The revised Alamo Plan would change several controversial aspects of the original version. And while there looks to be enough support on council to pass a new ground lease and operating agreement, which contains details of the plan, some council members have concerns.
