BSCO announced last week that it would begin identifying inmates for possible release if they were being held on a nonviolent charge and met certain criteria. A source familiar with the county’s jail population plan said a best-case scenario would be to have its population decrease to around 2,000 inmates after the next several weeks. COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new virus, stands for coronavirus disease 2019.
