Marta Lamar Prater, 49, died Saturday night after being shot in the neck and head by a Balcones Heights police officer.

It looks like a virtual reality video game, but those using it are not playing around. It is an innovative and technologically advanced way for law enforcement officers to practice intense, real-life scenarios.

When tragedy struck the Balcones Heights Police Department in February, it became clear to the police chief that mental health should be a bigger priority. So he brought on a full time volunteer chaplain as well as a therapist.

It was an emotional day for the Balcones Heights Police Department and Methodist Hospital as police sergeant Jose “Joey” Sepulveda returned to the hospital where he recovered following a shooting.

BALCONES HEIGHTS – A sergeant with the Balcones Heights Police Department is still recovering from his injuries after he was shot while responding to a car burglary last month. As the sergeant approached a car with three suspects inside, it was just moments later when he got into a physical struggle with the driver. During the struggle, Sgt. Ortiz assessed the sergeant’s injuries, put him the car and took him to the hospital. Sepulveda is now recovering at home after spending nearly a month hospitalized.

BALCONES HEIGHTS, Texas – A sergeant with the Balcones Heights Police Department was critically wounded after he was shot Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of an apartment complex, officials said. Joey Sepulveda was undergoing surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center for wounds in the neck and shoulder, Balcones Heights Mayor Suzanne DeLeon said. At least three suspects are being sought in connection with the shooting. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office put out an advisory for this suspect involved in the shooting of a Balcones Heights police officer. “My hat is off to that secondary officer,” Salazar said.

SAN ANTONIO The San Antonio Police Department and Balcones Heights Police Department are searching for a person of interest in a stabbing early Monday morning. The search is taking place in the 2800 block of Hillcrest Drive, not far from Loop 410 and Babcock Road. According to police, a woman was headed to her apartment with her boyfriend when they were approached by the suspect. Thats when, police say, an argument between the boyfriend and the suspect ensued, with the man being stabbed in both the abdomen and thigh. Authorities early Monday blocked off the entrance and the road leading up to the Trio Apartments on Hillcrest Drive.
