The Biden-Harris administration announced plans to provide up to $750 million in direct funding to Wolfspeed, with the money supporting its new silicon carbide factory in North Carolina that makes the wafers used in advanced computer chips and its factory in Marcy, New York.

The Brooks Development Authority has received $1.7 million in federal funding to support the installation of 24 electric vehicle chargers at three sites across its Southeast Side campus.

Dr. Octavio Martinez, of New Braunfels, was tapped to join the Biden-Harris Administration COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. Now, he has a chance to use his expertise to impact federal policy as part of the White House’s COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. AdThe task force, established through an executive order signed by Biden on Jan. 21, includes doctors from across the nation who are experts in different fields of medicine, Martinez said. As cities across Texas began to declare racism a public health crisis, the Hogg Foundation similarly declared racism a mental health crisis last year. AdMartinez and the other task force members hope to improve outreach to minority communities and issue recommendations that lead to more a more equitable allocation of COVID-19 resources.

SAN ANTONIO – Two San Antonians are members of President-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s transition team. The transition team consists of a group of experts that will aid in ensuring a smooth transfer of power for Biden and Harris when they begin their duties in the White House in January 2021. Trinity University professor Juan Sepulveda and Noel Poyo, the executive director of the National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders, will both serve on the transition team. Sepulveda’s name was listed under the Arts and Humanities group on the transition team’s website and Poyo’s name was included in the Department of Housing and Urban Development team. Although Biden and Harris have claimed victory, there are still thousands of ballots that need to be counted in certain states. As it currently stands, Biden has 279 electoral votes and 75,550,480 votes. Trump has 214 electoral votes, and 71,188,847 votes. Still, with Biden winning the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday, the count of his electoral votes passed 270, making him the U.S. President-elect.
