USAA donates $3.5 million to San Antonio organizations for COVID-19 relief
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio-based USAA has donated $5 million to nonprofit organizations across the country as support during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a large chunk of that going to seven local programs. USAA on Thursday announced $3.5 million will go to local organizations like Haven for Hope, the San Antonio Food Bank and Meals on Wheels โto address needs exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic.โโSince the pandemic began in March, many families across the country have experienced hardships related to food insecurity, limited access to technology and connectivity for remote schooling, lack of childcare and sometimes even homelessness,โ Harriet Dominique, chief diversity, inclusion and corporate responsibility officer, said in a news release. โAligned with our mission, we hope this continued support that we are able to provide to key nonprofit organizations helps with some of the burdens families are experiencing.โAdThe seven organizations included in the distribution include:Boys & Girls Clubs of San AntonioHaven for Hope of Bexar CountySan Antonio Food BankSan Antonio Metropolitan MinistriesUnited Way of San Antonio and Bexar CountyMeals on Wheels San AntonioTexas A&M University-San Antonio to help โclose the digital divideโThe remaining funds will be donated to more than a dozen nonprofit locations across the country, USAA said. Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio set to launch Learning Pods program ahead of school year
SAN ANTONIO โ The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio has created a solution for parents searching for a place where their student can learn while most campuses continue virtual learning during the first few weeks of school. Last month, Metropolitan Health District Medical Director Dr. Junda Woo issued a health directive stating that virtual learning should continue until Sept. 7th. The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio (BGCSA) will launch a Learning Pod program to help students succeed away from the classroom. KSAT Community spotlight: Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio seeks back-to-school donations for kids in need
SAN ANTONIO โ To help ensure children living in low-income households donโt fall behind in a virtual classroom, KSAT Community is teaming up with the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio (BGCSA) to spread awareness for BGCSAโs Learning Pod Program Wish List. With the onset of the pandemic, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio made the difficult decision to close the clubs and suspend in-person programming. For kids that need BGCSA the most, the nonprofit will offer academic support in the virtual learning environment. โIn order to help our Club kids attending virtual school at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio, we need to supply all of the tools they need for success,โ Garvens said. How Salvation Army is feeding, sheltering San Antonio community during COVID-19 crisis
SAN ANTONIO โ When the coronavirus pandemic hit South Texas, the Salvation Army of San Antonio worked quickly to ensure its shelter residents would be safe. โWeโre not taking the traffic indoors, so weโve moved our canteen truck outside,โ said Brad Mayhar, spokesperson for the Salvation Army of San Antonio. โWhen people donate through our local Salvation Army web site, the money stays local and it helps our local programs here in San Antonio,โ said Mayhar. Boys & Girls Clubs donate food to those in need during coronavirus pandemic
SAN ANTONIO โ The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio may not be able to host their Club Kids due to the coronavirus pandemic, but theyโre still actively engaged in the community. On Thursday, lines of cars were able to pick up packages of food downtown. Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio distribute food to needy familiesThe San Antonio Food Bank provides fresh produce while the club provides dry goods. You donโt need to be a club member to receive emergency food. On Wednesday, the club is scheduled to distribute food at its clubhouse next to Martin Luther King Park.
