The ceremony took place at Public Safety Headquarters. There are ceremonies taking place across San Antonio and throughout the country on Friday. The San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb that honors the first responders who lost their lives will take place virtually this year for social distancing. President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden are expected to attend a truncated ceremony at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.

A livestream of the ceremony at 2 p.m. will be placed in this article, but delays are possible. The ceremony will take place on the fantail of the historic battleship, with local veterans and other guests who witnessed the event. The initial plan had been to allow about 200 people, mostly WWII veterans, their families and government officials, to gather on the battleship USS Missouri, which hosted the Japanese surrender on Sept. 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay. Several dozen aging U.S. veterans, including some who were in Tokyo Bay as swarms of warplanes buzzed overhead and nations converged to end World War II, will gather on the battleship in Pearl Harbor in September to mark the 75th anniversary of Japan's surrender.

The ceremony included remarks by Dr. Kat Strauss, Air Force, LTC (Ret.). Elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Will Hurd, attended the event. The master of ceremony was Tom Earnest. The Texas Childrenās Choir, the MacArthur High School AJROTC and the Beethoven Band performed at the ceremony.
