Coming in at an estimated net worth of $17.8 billion, the Butt family fortune puts them in 15th place for wealthiest families. At the top of Forbes’ richest families list is the Walton family with a $247 billion fortune thanks to their ownership of Walmart. In June 2016, Forbes estimated the H-E-B family fortune to be closer to $11 billion. H-E-B was founded in 1905 in Kerrville by Florence Butt who opened her petite grocery store with just $60, Forbes reported.

Harris County is in the middle of legal challenges over its plan to send applications for mail-in ballots to registered voters 65 and older. Voters who receive the applications would still need to verify their information and send them in to election administrators to receive the actual ballot. On Wednesday, the Texas Supreme Court paused Harris Countys plans while lower courts decide on the case. In his letter, Butt commends the plan, which was led by Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins, arguing that the plan is permissible under election code.
