The Cowboy Breakfast will help kick off the 2024 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo as an official event from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Jan. 26 at 142 Gembler Road.

The Cowboy Breakfast Foundation on Thursday officially announced it is cutting ties to the long-held tradition of Cowboy Breakfast, which was the “unofficial kickoff to the rodeo season.

The long-held tradition of the Cowboy Breakfast is returning in 2024 for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and going forward, it’s going to officially be a rodeo event.

The 45th annual Cowboy Breakfast tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27, 2023, has been officially canceled, the Cowboy Breakfast Foundation said Tuesday.

A local tradition that’s been around for decades now faces an uncertain future as the deadline for the organization to secure a sponsor and the necessary funding loomed Wednesday.

“Open those checkbooks. Send us some money,” Vice-Chairman Chuck Christian said. “We would love to talk with a large corporate sponsor that could handle the event. Just anyone with money.”

Event organizers plan to cook and serve breakfast for San Antonio’s first responders during a private event.

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio tradition is seeing some big changes this year. The annual Cowboys Breakfast has been the unofficial kickoff to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, but this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic organizers had to cook up something different. Typically, thousands of people would be lining up for the public breakfast in the parking lot of Cowboys Dancehall while watching the preparation. Chefs instead are serving this year’s meals to several non-profits in honor of those who serve the San Antonio community. AdThe Cowboy Breakfast has also helped raise over $200,000 in scholarships to various non-profits, and $5,000 will be donated to the St. Philip’s Culinary Arts Program.

SAN ANTONIO – The annual Cowboy Breakfast will look vastly different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers announced Sunday that this year, there will not be a public breakfast. SAN ANTONIO – Thousands gathered at the annual Cowboy Breakfast early Friday morning for free food in the parking lot of Cowboys Dance Hall. The breakfast was served at 4:30 a.m. on 3030 NE Loop 410 at Interstate 35. The Cowboy Breakfast is the unofficial warm-up to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, which runs this year from Feb. 6 through Feb. 23. The breakfast menu once again included thousands of sausage and eggs tacos, chorizo and egg tacos, biscuits and gravy, tamales, juice and coffee.
