Texas coach Steve Sarkisian isn't giving any hint as to who will be the No. 21 Longhorns’ starting quarterback this week, and insists that injured Quinn Ewers and his top backup Hudson Card are “day-to-day” ahead of a matchup with UTSA.

Quinn Ewers threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns in his debut at quarterback for Texas and the Longhorns rolled over Louisiana-Monroe 52-10 in the season-opener for both programs.

Two games into the season and Texas is making a quarterback change this week against Rice.

That leaves Ehlinger alone to try to put a final stamp on a bizarre season that may or may not be his last in college. “No seniors have really been in this position to where they’ve been granted an extra year of eligibility,” Ehlinger said during Texas’ bowl preparations. Ehlinger has been the full-time starter since 2018 and ranks second only to Colt McCoy in the school record book for passing yards and touchdowns. Now he has a chance to win a fourth consecutive bowl game, a rarity for a starting quarterback. He has two career kickoff return touchdowns, a punt return TD and a blocked two-point conversion return for another score.

22 Texas at Kansas was among six games postponed Wednesday by COVID-19 problems as the virus took another chunk out of this weekend’s major college football schedule. Last week, 15 of the 59 games scheduled were not played. Texas-Kansas was just the second Big 12 conference game to be postponed this season and was rescheduled for Dec. 12. UNLV at Colorado State scheduled for Saturday will not be played, but there is a possibility it could be made up. ___Follow Ralph D.
