Perry helped create a safe way for many to return to work at his Tyler Perry Studios while the MPTF has provided social services to nearly 9,000 members. Perry and the MPTF will receive their Oscar statuettes at the 93rd Academy Awards on April 25.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Tuesday that Soderbergh, “Erin Brokovich” producer Stacey Sher and awards show veteran Jesse Collins have come on board to produce the 93rd Oscars telecast. The 93rd Academy Awards were delayed two months earlier this year because of COVID-19’s effects on the film industry, but the show will still be televised live on ABC on April 25, 2021. Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said that this upcoming show is “the perfect occasion for innovation and re-envisioning the possibilities for the awards show.”Collins also has experience. Earlier this year produced the virtual BET Awards and is also producing the Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl halftime show.

The Oscars ceremony date was the big lingering unknown, however. Now, Oscars nominations will be announced on March 15 and the nominees luncheon will be on April 15. Further, the future eligibility of films for the 94th Oscars and that show date will be announced later. The eligibility window was extended beyond 12 months once before in advance of the 6th Academy Awards in 1934.

BAFTA announced on Monday that its upcoming ceremony will be held on April 11, 2021. "This change from the previously announced date of Feb. 14 acknowledges the impact of the global pandemic and accommodates an extended eligibility period," BAFTA said in a statement. The BAFTA Awards traditionally takes place two weeks before the Oscars, so it's only fitting that the Academy's announcement earlier in the day -- that its ceremony had been pushed from Feb. 28 to April 25 -- would prompt a rescheduling from BAFTA. The Academy and the Producers Guild of America (PGA) are also enlisting a task force "to develop and implement new representation and inclusion standards for Oscars eligibility by July 31, 2020." In addition, beginning with the 94th Academy Awards in 2022, there will be 10 Best Picture nominees, rather than a fluctuating number of nominations from year to year. The Academy also shared this announcement on social media, sharing, "We are excited to announce the next phase of our equity and inclusion initiative. In our efforts to increase representation, we are working to create new industry standards, add new voices to our Board of Governors and expand the Best Picture category."
