Janie Najera has never sat down for an interview, but chose now because she wants justice for her husband.

The widow of a San Antonio man who was killed in a dog attack in a West Side neighborhood in February 2023 testified Tuesday in the punishment phase of the case involving the dogs’ owners.

The Najera family is suing the City of San Antonio and City Attorney Andy Segovia for damages arising from “a grievous and preventable tragedy.” The lawsuit was filed on Friday.

Christian Moreno and Abilene Schnieder face up to 20 years in prison.
