Virtuoso Award recipients include Riz Ahmed, Maria Bakalova, Kinglsey Ben-Adir, Andra Day, Sidney Flanigan, Vanessa Kirby, Tahar Rahim and Zendaya. AdThe Santa Barbara International Film Festival regularly attracts more than 100,000 attendees annually.

The filmed āHamiltonā performance on Disney+, meanwhile, was eligible in the film categories and picked up two nominations.

AFI also selected Warner Bros.ā Black Panther Party film āJudas and the Black Messiahā which will have its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Feb. 1. The AFI also named its top 10 television shows, including Netflixās āThe Queenās Gambit,ā the Disney+ phenomenon āThe Mandalorianā and Apple TV+ās āTed Lasso.āThe selection jury included filmmakers Rian Johnson and Lulu Wang. The group also included a special citation for āHamilton.āIn lieu of the annual luncheon celebrating the honorees, AFI will hold a virtual benediction on Feb. 26 streaming on YouTube and the AFI website.

The film critics, assembling virtually, gave its top award to āFirst Cow,ā a delicate tale of friendship and capitalism in mid-1800s Oregon Territory. The critics pointedly said the honor was for a service ādesigned to help support movie theaters, not destroy them.āThe New York Film Critics Circle Awards are usually part of a wave of critics group honors that can occasionally influence awards season. Other NYFCC picks include: āTimeā for best non-fiction film; āBacurauā for best foreign language film; āThe Forty-Year-Old Versionā for best first film; āWolfwalkers" for best animated film; and the five-film anthology āSmall Axeā for best cinematography.

In Lindo's intense performance, Da 5 Bloods turns almost mythic in its deconstruction of African American history in U.S. combat and in war films. Lindo's gravity has long been felt in roles large and small, from Get Shorty to Heist, but Da 5 Bloods gives Lindo one of his fullest showcases. Lindo built his performance on research, meeting with two cousins who served and a number of Vietnam vets. Lindo: I remember saying to Spike, Spike, Im a father and a parent.
