Judge Velia Meza ruled that evidence from warrants in 2021 child pornography and bribery cases against Erik Rodriguez must be suppressed, meaning that evidence cannot be used by prosecutors moving forward.

Former San Antonio Police Officer Erik Rodriguez was in court Wednesday as his attorneys filed a motion to suppress evidence in his case that may have been obtained with an illegal search warrant.

Twenty San Antonio police officers were suspended for misconduct in January, according to records recently obtained by KSAT 12 News.

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police officer who has been indicted on several charges will be allowed to visit his children as he awaits trial. During a brief hearing Wednesday before 226th District Court Judge Velia Meza, Rodriguez asked that he be allowed to visit his children while on bond awaiting trial. ”I just want to work,” Rodriguez testified. “I want to work and see my kids.”Meza granted a bond modification that allows Rodriguez supervised visits with his children. After he was indicted, Rodriguez was placed on indefinite suspension without pay.

SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County grand jury on Monday indicted an officer with the San Antonio Police Department on charges of bribery, misuse of public information and child pornography. SAPD confirmed to KSAT 12 News last week that Rodriguez was arrested twice after a victim in a domestic violence case said she believed her abuser had a friend providing him information. A detective later discovered that not only had Rodriguez provided case information to the suspect but had been paid by the suspect to do so. Because Rodriguez had not been charged with the sexual offense prior to the grand jury indictment, the grand jury set a bond of $100,000 in the case. These cases are being prosecuted by the Public Integrity and Cyber Crime Unit in the 226th District Court.
