Biden lifts Trump-era ban blocking legal immigration to US
Read full article: Biden lifts Trump-era ban blocking legal immigration to USBiden stated in his proclamation Wednesday that shutting the door on legal immigrants “does not advance the interests of the United States." “To the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here. It also harms industries in the United States that utilize talent from around the world," Biden stated in his proclamation. Immigration lawyers said they were surprised Biden did not immediately lift the freeze like he did with Trump's travel ban imposed against people from mostly Muslim-majority countries. As a result, some immigrants blocked by the travel ban found they still could not come to the United States because of the freeze.

Biden boosts pandemic lending to smallest businesses
Read full article: Biden boosts pandemic lending to smallest businesses(AP Photo/Evan Vucci)WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden announced changes Monday to target more federal pandemic assistance to the nation’s smallest businesses and ventures owned by women and people of color. Biden says a lot of these mom and pop businesses “got muscled out of the way” by larger businesses seeking federal money in the early days of the pandemic. "America’s small businesses are hurting, hurting badly and they need help now,” Biden said. Under the pandemic-era Paycheck Protection Program, the administration is establishing a two-week window, starting Wednesday, in which only businesses with fewer than 20 employees — the overwhelming majority of small businesses — can apply for the forgivable loans. The Biden effort is aimed at correcting disparities in how the program was administered by the Trump administration.

Read full article: Biden repudiates Trump on Iran, ready for talks on nuke dealIn addition to signaling a willingness to talk with Iran, the administration also reversed Trump’s determination that all U.N. sanctions against Iran had been restored. The U.S. has not participated in a meeting of those participants since Trump withdrew from the deal and began steadily ramping up sanctions on Iran. The Trump administration had imposed the severe restrictions, which essentially confined them to their U.N. mission and the U.N. headquarters building in New York. “It is concerning the Biden Administration is already making concessions in an apparent attempt to re-enter the flawed Iran deal," he said. In Iran, President Hassan Rouhani expressed hope Thursday that the Biden administration will rejoin the accord and lift the U.S. sanctions that Washington re-imposed under Trump, according to state television.

White House forces reporters to ditch social distancing
Read full article: White House forces reporters to ditch social distancing(AP Photo/Evan Vucci)NEW YORK The White House abandoned social distancing for reporters attending President Donald Trump's Rose Garden event Friday because it looks better, according to the aide who ordered it. Seats for reporters at recent White House events had been placed 6 feet apart to protect against the spread of the coronavirus. The decision needlessly put reporters' health at risk, said Jonathan Karl of ABC News, president of the White House Correspondents' Association. White House spokesman Judd Deere said it was his decision to move the seats closer together. There was no reason to put them together, except so that President Trump could telegraph a false message.
