The development timeline for a massive 820,000-square-foot movie studio outside San Marcos remains muddled, as pictures taken of the site by KSAT show an empty lot nearly six months out from its projected completion date.

Hill Country Studios has secured zoning and annexation approvals from the city of San Marcos, which means the project is on pace to break ground this year, with part of the study expected to open in 2024, according to the Austin Business Journal.

Protestors from San Antonio, Austin and San Marcos gathered outside San Marcos City Hall on Tuesday to voice their concerns over the development of a new film production studio.

Hill Country Studios would be one of the largest film studios in the country.
