The Salvation Army Dave Coy Men’s Shelter will also provide overnight shelter for those in need as the cold front sets in. Clients will have access to restroom and shower facilities, hygiene products, a bed with clean linens and meals, city officials said.

HOUSTON – It was an emotional reunion for one Tomball, Texas father and his daughter, who were separated at her birth and then came together again after 50 years. SAN ANTONIO – A 48-year-old man at a bus stop outside Haven for Hope was stabbed by a woman early Friday morning, San Antonio police said. The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. near Frio Street and Haven for Hope Way. According to police, the man suffered non-life-threatening stab wounds when he was attacked by the 39-year-old woman, identified by police late Friday afternoon as Amanda Kay Smith. A resident at Haven for Hope said Smith usually sleeps on the street near the shelter but did not appear to be staying inside.

San Antonio – Some of the most vulnerable members of our community have no place to take shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Haven for Hope CEO Kenny Wilson says exceptions will be made for families with children, veterans and a few through selected targeting outreach. The City of San Antonio is also leading an effort to help the high number of people who are on the streets. In the next few days, the city plans to launch a hotline to help people reach social services. Both Haven for Hope and the city are looking at what funds are available federally and at the state level to help with homelessness.

SAN ANTONIO – Schools sit empty amid the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t be put to good use. Margil Academy is currently being used by Haven for Hope to help house the homeless while complying with social distancing protocols. The school said the groups of people will be brought in through an entrance that allows them access to the gym and cafeteria and won't be allowed outside the restricted areas. Fifty-five individuals will be shuttled each evening and will leave the facility in the morning. Haven for Hope said staff members and clients will be screened for symptoms every daym and the areas will be disinfected daily.
