A second South Carolina death row inmate has asked to die by firing squad just five weeks after the state carried out its first execution by bullets.

Lawyers for a South Carolina inmate set to be put to death next month want the state Supreme Court to stop his execution, saying his defense’s plea for his life at his original trial was totally inadequate.
