Republicans are stepping up their scrutiny of dozens of shelters run by aid groups on the U.S. border with Mexico.

Leaders of nonprofits that provides aid to migrants say they’re expecting the end of Title 42 to have a huge impact. In fact, they say they are already seeing an increase in migrants seeking asylum.

Gov. Greg Abbott will sign Senate Bill 576 into law and meet with local officials on Wednesday in McAllen.

Statewide officials are campaigning in the Democratic stronghold and GOP groups are now targeting statehouse districts.
