Trump will celebrate one of the pillars of his presidency — his campaign against illegal immigration — amid the backdrop of a second possible impeachment. Five people died, including a police officer, during the deadly insurrection to attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Trump faces a charge of “incitement of insurrection” in an impeachment resolution that the House will begin debating Wednesday. Castro, the former mayor of San Antonio and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, is among the Democrats who have called for Trump’s removal.

No candidate cleared 50% of the vote in the respective races, and Georgia law requires a runoff in such cases. Earlier this week, Castro, the former U.S. housing secretary and San Antonio mayor, spent two days in Georgia stumping with both Ossoff and Warnock. Another high-profile Texas Republican, Crenshaw, has already visited the state and plans to return before the end of the month. The state party has been mobilizing volunteers on its Mighty Texas Strike Force to head to Georgia, with the largest deployment expected to happen after Christmas. In a sign of how the political world has gone all in on Georgia, the campaigners from Texas have not gone unnoticed by other out-of-state surrogates.

Julin Castro on Tuesday formally backed Joe Biden for president, following the presumptive Democratic nominees call for police reform in the wake of George Floyds death. Castro, the former Biden primary opponent, U.S. housing secretary and San Antonio mayor, said in a tweet he was "proud to support" Biden, and a Castro spokesman confirmed he was endorsing the former vice president. While Castro had called for unity around Biden and vowed to help defeat President Donald Trump, he had not formalized his support for Biden until now. His brother, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of San Antonio, has not officially backed Biden, though a Joaquin Castro spokesman said in a statement last week that the congressman is "going to do everything he can to make sure Joe Biden beats Trump like a drum." Both Castros endorsed Elizabeth Warren after Julin Castro dropped his bid at the start of the year.
