The La Vernia Bears football team is heading to the UIL state semifinals for the first time in program history.

La Vernia, Boerne and Smithson Valley stand one-win away from AT&T Stadium.

La Vernia has been back in the fourth round for the first time since 2018 and is trying to advance to the state semifinals for the first time in program history.

With the return of many players, the Bears are looking to be playing postseason football in November and December.

Even with only 10 starters returning from last year's squad, head coach Chris Taber and the La Vernia Bears still have high expectations heading into the 2021 season.

A matchup between the top two teams in District 30-4A highlights Tuesday night's volleyball action, as the La Vernia Bears stay unbeaten with a sweep of Navarro. In District 26-5A, McCollum rallies past Seguin on the road in a five-set thriller and in District 26-3A, Universal City Randolph fends off Marion with a 3-2 victory.

SOUTH TEXAS – It's time to travel around South Texas for the Big Game Coverage Road Trip. Game 1: Hallettsville Sacred Heart Indians (0-1) at Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (1-1). Hallettsville had its first game of the season canceled. Game 2: Falls City Beavers (1-1) at Stockdale Brahmas (1-1). The Leopards lost to Argyle last Friday after their season opener was canceled due to damage from Hurricane Harvey.
