When we made the decision yesterday, our High School was experiencing substantially greater percentages than our other campuses,” said Superintendent Dr. Henley Cole. There’s no indication whether remote learning will once again be offered when students return in January. Earlier this week, Seguin ISD also announced that its high school would go to virtual-only learning this week.

Cone said the district had already gone from 75% to 90% of its 3,200 students who had to return to school. “We’ve had a couple of positive cases this week, all contracted outside of the school district,” Cone said. Not only does the district perform deep cleaning nightly, but Cone also said similar precautions are taken throughout the day. He said the district trusts that all of them will watch for symptoms, quarantine if necessary, and get tested.

La Vernia ISD yet to hand over text messages of former superintendent, despite AG’s rulingThe Defenders originally asked for preliminary information from the criminal complaints against Lovette last year, but officials in La Vernia said they never received the email because it was addressed incorrectly. The school district, through its attorney, has instead told KSAT 12 that the station must pay $1,621 to inspect the records, including paying a deposit of $810.50. KSAT 12 filed a complaint late last year with the attorney general’s office, claiming the cost estimate to view the records is excessive. The La Vernia Independent School District said Joseph McIntosh was immediately removed from campus after the allegations came to light. He is also not allowed to have any contact with students or staff members or enter any of the district facilities, according to La Vernia ISD. Local law enforcement officials are investigating the allegation.
