But Lowry ā a free-agent-to-be and considered perhaps the biggest prize on this year's trade market ā did not get traded, the Raptors apparently unable to find enough assets to their liking. Questions swirled around Lowry all the way to the 3 p.m. EST deadline, and there were signs that the Raptors were positioning themselves to make the move.

Indeed, the movie's ending -- after a mere 94 minutes -- leaves so much business unfinished that it's pretty obvious this whole exercise was conceived with visions of Harry Potter dancing in executives' heads. Artemis -- christened a "criminal mastermind" -- must find a mystical object, the Aculos, in order to secure his freedom. That's a drawback, in theory, that could be improved upon should "Artemis Fowl" impress subscribers enough to merit a sequel, and slow its roll a bit. "Artemis Fowl" premieres June 12 on Disney+.
