A San Antonio nonprofit mired in controversy after a Defenders investigation revealed its widespread misuse of state funding has sold off a plot of land registered to produce industrial hemp.

Officials with A New Life for A New Generation announced the closure of its location at 314 North Hackberry on social media on March 7.

A San Antonio nonprofit for pregnant women and young parents that instead used money on a West Side smoke shop and out of state trips is among the biggest recipients of funding from the state program that backs it, records obtained by the KSAT 12 Defenders show.

The expenditures fly in the face of rules outlined by a state program that provides a vast majority of New Life’s funding.
