The march attracts about 300,000 people every year and has been held every year in San Antonio since Jan. 19, 1987. According to the City of San Antonio Public Works Department, sections of MLK Drive will be closed during the days and times listed below:Martin Luther King Drive (from Badger Street to West Hein Street) closed Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.Martin Luther King Drive (from West Hein Street to Lone Oak Street) closed Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.Martin Luther King Drive (from Bellinger Street to Claver Street ) closed Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.Martin Luther King Drive (from Bellinger Street to Spriggsdale Blvd.) closed Friday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Martin Luther King Drive (from Spriggsdale Blvd. to South Mel Waiters Way) closed Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.Martin Luther King Drive is scheduled to completely reopen to traffic at 6 p.m. Friday.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Upland Road near the 4200 block on the city’s East Side. According to police, the driver of a white Ford F250 pickup truck with a tandem trailer was driving east on Martin Luther King Drive when the collision with a CAT tractor occurred. The driver and passenger of the CAT tractor were attempting to pull out of a construction site and the passenger was thrown off the tractor, police said. The driver of the F250 had minor injuries and also had to be taken to an area hospital.

The incident happened just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Drive and Robeson Avenue. Police said a 39-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were wounded when they were hit by gunfire. SAPD said the pair had driven separately to Martin Luther King Drive and when the man got out of his vehicle he was confronted by an unknown person and then fired upon. Police said the wounded man got into the woman’s car and the gunshots continued, hitting the woman in the lower extremities.

Police were called to the 600 block of Ferris Avenue around 9:30 a.m., according to Officer Alisia Pruneda. He found the suspect with a sharp object and attempted talking to him in an effort to disarm him, Pruneda said. The suspect, who had already stabbed the woman, stabbed the teen and fled from the home. Pruneda said the teen was conscious, but the woman was stabbed multiple times and rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
