More than 500 first responders along with other civilians took part in the memorial event this year.

Sunday is the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

The San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb will pay tribute to 343 fallen firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers and nine emergency medical service technicians who died at ground zero.

Every year since 9/11, as it has become known, there have been memorials, services and events to honor those who lost their lives. That tradition continues 20 years later in San Antonio and the surrounding areas.

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department and the San Antonio Fire Department gathered Friday morning for a ceremony honoring the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The ceremony took place at Public Safety Headquarters. There are ceremonies taking place across San Antonio and throughout the country on Friday. The San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb that honors the first responders who lost their lives will take place virtually this year for social distancing. President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden are expected to attend a truncated ceremony at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.
