Robert Gomez, Athletic Director for Edgewood ISD, announced Monday that all summer strength, conditioning and skills camps at all district campuses were suspended until further notice. Edgewood is one of a handful of local districts or schools that have suspended summer workouts amid the pandemic. Burbank High School suspended their athletic program for a week, while Harlandale ISD and San Marcos CISD suspended summer strength and conditioning programs indefinitely. The UIL allowed workouts to begin on June 8 under certain guidelines.

Complete with a mock medical clinic as a classroom, the school earned the title as the Go Public Cool School winner for October. "Coming from the west side of San Antonio I'm just here to help them grow to become professionals in the future," Johnston said. For students like junior Edward Fonseca, who aspires to be a pharmacist, this program has been life-changing. "At first I wasn't really motivated so I would just get to school and leave, now I am the last one to leave," Fonseca said.
