A high ranking administrator with the La Vernia Independent School District was paid tens of thousands of dollars while on leave from the district, prior to his resignation going into effect, records obtained by KSAT Investigates show.

La Vernia ISD is starting off the school year with the launch of its new guardian program.

On Monday night, La Vernia ISD board members voted unanimously to allow select staff members to carry concealed weapons as part of a district guardian program.

La Vernia ISD Director of Safety and Security Michael Duffek said the UIL has provided guidance on what districts can do.
