The deal includes increasing percentages of overscale payments, bonuses if the philharmonic exceeds financial projections and a provision allowing up to 10 Sunday performances per season, concerts that previously had been prohibited. The philharmonic also obtained full media rights to its performances. The philharmonic had laid off 40% of its administrative staff and cut remaining salaries by up to 30%.

Borda said she hopes the full orchestra can resume performances next summer with performances in New York City parks and its residency in Vail, Colorado. The Metropolitan Opera, which initially hoped to reopen on Dec. 31, called off its entire 2020-21 season on Sept. 23. Tickets for the current Philharmonic season will be credited for 2021-22, or buyers may ask for refunds or donate the value.

People say, well, the European orchestras are doing this, how come the American orchestras arent? Another $9 million in ticket revenue will be lost due to the cancellation of the fall season.
