San Antonio City Council approved a proposed merging ordinance for the city’s two existing climate advisory committees, setting in motion a singular team to oversee sustainability efforts.

The $15,000 grant from San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability will also support renovations of a greenhouse near the Headwaters Sanctuary, construction of pollinator gardens and a seed library, and expanding a compost site.

The $1.2 million will enhance energy efficiency, mitigate climate pollution associated with transportation-related emissions and reduce energy consumption.

The Office of Sustainability is seeking applicants for its grassroots community engagement grant program.

The Mayor's Youth Engagement Council for Climate Initiatives will present projects the cohort has worked on over the last school year during a ceremony on May 16 at UTSA's downtown campus.

The report, which charts metrics related to climate and sustainability issues affecting the Alamo City, comes with several scannable QR codes and links.

Previous cohorts have worked on projects including installing bug hotels to increase biodiversity, developing strategies for the city to improve public transportation and EV adoption and advocating for local policy changes.

A San Antonio-based nonprofit will be giving away fruit trees at the Pearl Farmers Market on Saturday for Fruit Tree Adoption and Sustainability Day.
