AdNirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff issued their “Stay Home, Work Safe” orders by March 23, 2020, effectively closing all non-essential businesses. Wolff didn’t allow Bexar County bars to open until he consulted with the TABC and the COVID-19 task force. Bexar County bars and restaurants saw a 46% decrease in alcohol sales between January and October of 2020 compared to 2019, according to data from the Texas Comptroller’s Office. It is now time to open Texas 100%.”

SAN ANTONIO – One year ago, San Antonio students began their 2020 spring break only to learn it wouldn’t end as planned. COVID-19 pandemic worries had reached a tipping point by then, and schools around the country shut down. San Antonio school superintendents are now looking back on lessons learned and where we are going from here. Speaking of tests, most school districts are now offering regular COVID-19 tests for staff and students, and vaccinations are now being added the mix. District leaders said look for the fall school plans to roll out by the end of this semester.

Texas’ first case of the new coronavirus was discovered right here in San Antonio one year ago Friday — back when there were only 15 confirmed COVID-19 cases throughout the U.S. The video below shows KSAT’s coverage from Feb. 13, 2020, the day the first virus case was announced in San Antonio. AdAfter the plane arrived, the CDC reassured the city that a 14-day quarantine would be in place to protect the safety and health of the passengers and San Antonio residents. All were eventually medically cleared and on March 25, the last of the evacuees left San Antonio.
