(Photo by Ronald Cortes/Getty Images)SAN ANTONIO ā As COVID-19 continues to spread at concerning levels, the San Antonio Spurs will hold off on allowing fans at the AT&T Center, the team announced in a news release on Monday. The current COVID-19 trends are similar to the summer surge in San Antonio when reopening phases had to be paused due to the virusā spread across the state of Texas. Despite dealing with a similar surge in Houston, the Rockets are allowing fans into the Toyota Center on a limited basis. The Spurs news release did not reveal when the team planned to starts allowing fans back in the stadium.

This will be the first time the AT&T Center has been utilized for voting in a general election. That coupled with the pandemic, weāve never had a general election or a significant election in a COVID-19 environment.āRodriguez said last week there would be no shortage of personal protective equipment inside the arena for voters and election workers. The AT&T Center was one of four proposed mega voting sites in Bexar County. With the AT&T Center and Spurs officially on board, Rodriguez has said the county hopes to reach more underserved communities.

SS&E CEO RC Buford released the following statement in regard to the layoffs. While we all understand the tremendous impact COVID-19 has had on our economy, staff reductions are devastating, regardless of the circumstances. Spurs Sports and Entertainment operates and owns the Spurs (NBA), Austin Spurs (NBA Development League), San Antonio FC (USL), and also manages the day-to-day operations of the AT&T Center. The Spurs have not played at the AT&T Center since early March and all concerts and events in the arena scheduled for upcoming months have been canceled or postponed.
