Mauritius has lifted its highest storm alert and eased a nationwide curfew after a cyclone battered the Indian Ocean island and nearby French island of Reunion.

A tropical cyclone has caused heavy flooding and at least one death in Mauritius as cars were washed away by surges of water in the Indian Ocean island’s capital city and other places.

A weakened Cyclone Freddy which pummeled Madagascar Tuesday night with heavy rains and strong destructive winds has killed four people and is continuing to wreak havoc in the southwest of the Indian Ocean nation.

A cyclone which is intensifying as it approaches the southeastern African coast has been labeled as “dangerous” by the United Nation’s weather agency on Monday as nations brace for landfall.

SAN ANTONIO – Even the day after two sisters from Honduras were reunited in San Antonio, seeing the joy and relief in their faces was “just beautiful,” said Pastor Katie Best-Richmond of the San Antonio Mennonite Church. Up until then, she said, “We’ve all been nervous and scared.”Rosa and her younger sister, Maritza, had not seen each other in two years. Yet, somehow, Maritza was able to quickly apply for asylum at the border and was released only about a day later. She said, given the sisters were reunited this week even as the influx at the border continues, “It is a miracle. “They are just absolute joys, and they are so kind and loving to everyone that they meet,” Best-Richmond said.

Going through quarantine or self-isolation over the past year or so has been tough, but it’s been even more challenging for people who have been separated from loved ones.

HOUSTON – It was an emotional reunion for one Tomball, Texas father and his daughter, who were separated at her birth and then came together again after 50 years. Winski’s daughter, Kerri Beggs, said at the age of 19, she began a quest to find her biological father. Beggs, who now lives in Tucson, Arizona, took a plane to Hobby Airport on Friday, a flight that was delayed. For the first time after a lifetime of missing each other, the father and daughter embraced each other. For the last four months, I’ve been looking forward to this day.”Added Winski, “She’s my little girl.
