In Austin, St. Edward's University had been planning to permanently waive ACT and SAT requirements for months, Dean of Admissions Drew Nichols told The Texas Tribune last spring. Last year, the University of California system announced its campuses would begin phasing out the ACT and SAT immediately. Sun Country Airlines announced Monday that it will offer nonstop service from San Antonio International Airport to Cancun International Airport beginning May 28. The B737-800 plane seats 183 passengers and departs San Antonio at noon and arrives in Cancun at 2:30 p.m. Sun Country Airlines also operates additional seasonal flights from SAT to Minneapolis/St. Southwest Airlines will also offer service to Cancun from San Antonio beginning in March.

The optional essay adds about another hour and is scored separately, as were the lesser required subject tests given in specific areas like chemistry or foreign languages. The subject tests will immediately end for U.S. students and will be phased out for international students by June. The optional essay will be discontinued after June testing sessions.

Colleges across the nation are discussing whether standardized test scores should be included in the admissions process.
