The “Battle of 1604″ rivalry game between Southside and Somerset will be renewed on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the second annual KSAT Pigskin Classic in the Alamodome.

Koy Detmer, son of the late, great Sonny Detmer, takes over head coaching duties this season in Somerset, as the Bulldogs look to improve off of last year's 2-7 record.

SOMERSET – The Detmer legacy continues at Somerset High School. On Monday evening, the Somerset School District Board of Trustees met to name Koy Detmer as the new head football coach. Koy is the son of longtime high school football coaching legend Sonny Detmer, who passed away last September. Koy played quarterback for his father at Mission High School and served as head coach of the Eagles for the past five seasons. He played eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and had a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings.

SAN ANTONIO – Somerset ISD has suffered the loss of another legendary coach. Powerlifting coach Marvin Allen died Wednesday morning, according to the district’s athletic director Keith Higginbotham. “Coach Allen was loved and respected by so many athletes and his fellow co-workers and leaves a lasting impact in our hearts. SAN ANTONIO – Legendary San Antonio-area and Somerset head football coach Sonny Detmer has died. Detmer is one of the state’s all-time winningest head football coaches. Detmer’s sons, Ty and Koy, played quarterback for their father and went on to successful collegiate and NFL careers after prolific high school careers. Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy while at BYU and Koy Detmer was the starting quarterback for Colorado. Detmer’s grandsons also played quarterback for him at Somerset.
