Firefighters faced challenges at two different fires Monday morning which slowed their efforts to save people and property. In one case, a man suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

A man and woman were taken against their will by two gunmen who kicked in their front door, according to San Antonio police. The criminals left behind the couple's five children, police say.

The medical examiner identified Alicia Guajardo, 82, as the woman who died in a fire at her Southwest Side home in late July.

SAN ANTONIO – A fire at a Dollar General on the Southwest Side caused “significant damages," according to the San Antonio Fire Department. The fire happened at the Dollar General located on Old Pearsall Road. Joe Arrington, public information officer for SAFD, said crews were able to get the blaze under control in 20-30 minutes. A cause for the fire and exact dollar amount for the damages sustained has yet to be determined, Arrington said. However, he said the fire caused “significant damage” to the building and said the entire contents of the storage unit were on fire.
