TxDOT launches campaign to reduce pedestrian deaths on Texas roadways
SAN ANTONIO โ Pedestrian deaths on Texas roadways continue to rise, and now account for one in five of all traffic fatalities, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. In 2019, the last year from when complete statistics are available, there were 5,975 traffic crashes involving pedestrians in Texas with 669 fatalities. In the 12-county San Antonio district, there were 754 such crashes with 72 fatalities. TxDOT is also investing in pedestrian safety improvements along the roadways it controls, including 120 such projects in the San Antonio district alone. The pedestrian safety campaign is part of TxDOTโs larger efforts to reduce the number of traffic fatalities on state roadways to zero.

SAN ANTONIO โ Drivers across the state are advised to stay off state highways and city streets as slick road conditions linger and threaten to worsen as the night falls. While some areas of the city seem to be deserted, others are just as busy as ever. Officials say they want to keep highways and city streets reserved for first responders and essential travel. Traffic was also seen flowing on Interstate 35 and other state highways in our area, which is a problem, officials say. Unnecessary travel on city streets is discouraged.

Winter wonderland creates dangerous road conditions for San Antonio drivers

On Sunday night, however, slick road conditions intensified as 3.7 inches of snow fell, leaving many roads throughout San Antonio impassable.
