The Air Force’s Thunderbirds are returning to San Antonio in April as part of the Great Texas Airshow.

SAN ANTONIO – The newest member of the Air Force Thunderbirds is “an experienced leader and skilled F-16 pilot” from San Antonio. “We are excited for him to join our team and carry on the mission of representing America’s Air Force,” the Thunderbirds said. It was demobilized a year later and then reconstituted as the 30th Bombardment Squadron in 1923. The 30th Bombardment Squadron was reassigned to Kelly Field from 1930-1932, but was organized as a Regular Army Inactive (RAI). In September 1985, the 30th Bombardment Squadron was consolidated with the USAF Air Demonstration Squadron, which is the squadron known publicly as the Thunderbirds.

SAN ANTONIO – Thousands of San Antonians were looking up Wednesday as the Air Force’s Thunderbirds took to the sky as part of America Strong, a recognition and show of national solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic for healthcare workers, first responders and other essential personnel. Many residents watched from home, online or select areas of the city where it was safe to socially distance. While most everyone else was looking up, the Thunderbird pilots were looking down on the city and now you can see San Antonio and Austin from their point of view. Robert Romero Jr. told KSAT he captured the flyover “at a tower downtown [near the] San Antonio River Walk on Caesar Chavez Blvd. “We are considered essential workers as well," said. SAN ANTONIO – Pop-up COVID-19 testing sites will continue this week. They are done in partnership with Metro Health and the San Antonio Fire Department’s mobile integrated health program. At these testing sites, those that are symptomatic or asymptomatic can get tested, free of charge. Those that visit these testing sites will not need to make an appointment; however, each site has a limit of 300 tests that are available. The first case confirmed in the U.S. was in mid-January and the first case confirmed in San Antonio was in mid-February.

SAN ANTONIO – The Thunderbirds fly will over San Antonio and Austin Tuesday to honor the frontline COVID-19 workers. However, due to inclement weather, the date for the event has been pushed back, according to the Thunderbirds’ website. In April, the military confirmed the plans to conduct the flyover tour to honor the frontline workers that are battling the spread of COVID-19. Flyovers in San Antonio will start at 1:20 P.M.
